RAWALPINDI – Peshawar Zalmi beat Multan Sultans by four runs in the 21st Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9 match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Tuesday evening.
Chasing a challenging 205-run target for victory, Multan Sultans just fell short of the finishing line despite heroics of Iftikhar Ahmed (60) and Chris Jordan (30) during the last five overs. Both the players put on 75 runs partnership in just 28 balls to give scare to Zalmi. Sultans managed to reach 200/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Rizwan scored 32 runs, Tayyab Tahir 26, Dawid Malan 19 and Khushdil Shah 11 runs. Aamer Jamal bagged two wickets, Mehran Mumtaz and Naveen-ul-Haq one wicket each while Mohammad Rizwan was runs out. Babar Azam was named played of the match.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, skipper Babar Azam (64) and Saim Ayun (46) provided a solid start with 84 runs partnership. Cameos of Haseebullah Khan (31), Rovman Powell (23), Aamer Jamal (12) and Asif Ali (11) helped Zalmi put 204/5 on the board in the allotted 20 overs. Usama Mir bagged three wickets while Chris Jordan took two wickets.
