LAHORE – Quetta gladiators beat Peshawar Zalmi by 16 runs in the 2nd match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 in Lahore on Sunday.
Chasing a challenging 207 runs target for victory, Peshawar Zalmi fell short by 16 runs despite a good 91-run opening partnership between top scorer Babar Azam (68) and Saim Ayub (42). Zalmi managed to reach 190/6 in the allotted 20 overs.
Abrar Ahmed bagged two wickets while Mohammad Amir, Waseen Junior and Akeal Hosein took one wicket each. Saud Shakeel was named player of the match for his maiden PSL half century.
After being asked to bat first by Zalmi skipper Babar Azam, the Gladiators scored 206/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Openers Jason Roy (75) and Saud Shakeel (74) provided a solid foundation with a 157-run partnership. Cemeos of Sherfane Rutherford (20) and skipper Rilee Rossouw (14) helped the Gladiators to post a mammoth score of 206/5.
Salman Irshad bagged three wickets while Muhammad Zeeshan and Luke Wood took one wicket each.
These two teams have faced each other in 21 matches, with Quetta Gladiators winning nine games and Peshawar Zalmi winning 12.
