Parliamentary leader of Pakistan People’s Party in Punjab Assembly Syed Hassan Murtaza has demanded that investigation of Aziz Memon’s murder should be started from Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan, as the provincial minister admitted on the floor of Punjab Assembly that Aziz Memon’s last meeting was held with him.
In Punjab Assembly’s session, the PPP leader reacted strongly to the unfounded allegations and false accusations of Provincial Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan, saying that Chohan admitted on the floor of the assembly that Aziz Memon had held last meeting with him. He demanded that the inquiry should start from Chohan so that the murder case could reach its logical end and culprits be brought to justice. ‘We want justice to prevail’, he added.
While expressing solidarity with journalists and media workers in his speech, Hassan Murtaza assured them of his party’s full backing and support and demanded that all the state and government institutions and other bodies ensured the freedom of press and protection of journalists. He said that the PPP always had a clear stance on media freedom and protection of journalists, adding it would stand by journalists and continue to struggle against the injustices being committed by the government.
Whenever the media faced censorship, the PPP always extended its support, now media was facing censorship as well as financial crises due to selected government’s anti-media policies, he added.
While commenting on the murder of Aziz Memon, he said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had not only condemned the murder, but also offered judicial commission and other forums as per the wishes of journalist community and family to investigate the murder.
He further said the PPP has been always participated in every movement of journalists and has played a leading role against every dictator.
To date, the PPP has never tried to suppress journalists.
Due to selected government’s misplaced priorities and anti-people polices, the media industry was facing financial crises and journalists were being unemployed. Media workers were committing suicide due to unpaid salaries; No one else but the government was responsible for all these deaths, he accused.
The selected government was conspiring to establish a parallel government in Sindh through the IG, which was worsening the situation in the province. One of our female MPA Shahnaz Ansari has been killed recently. This was all due to the federal government’s use of police for politics in Sindh. The provincial government has the constitutional right and prerogative to change IG. Crimes are occurring because of the same interference and unconstitutional behavior, he blamed.
