ISLAMABAD – President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan have felicitated the nation and the Muslim community on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
In their messages, they said Allah Almighty has provided us with an opportunity to fully benefit from His blessings in this holy month.
The President said purification and obedience to the commandments of Allah Almighty are objectives of fasting.
The premier stressed on implementation of the SOPs during Ramadan in order to control the spread of the coronavirus.
He said we have to combat this critical situation with unity.
Earlier today, Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Abdul Khabir Azad announced Ramadan moon has been sighted in Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference after the central meeting held in Peshawar, he said that the country will observe the first fast on Wednesday. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital hosted the first meeting of the central committee in 17 years.
Representatives of Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), and the Ministry of Science and Technology were also part of the meeting.
Meanwhile, meetings of the zonal committees were held in various cities of Pakistan, including Hyderabad, Karachi, and Islamabad.
Saudi Arabia observed the first day of the holy month today as moon was sighted in the Kingdom on Monday.
