Ambassador of Poland, MrMaciejPisarski on Thursday hosted Christmas/End-of-the-Year dinner for media persons, an annual ritual Ambassador Pisarski never fails to remember. However, it was not ‘just a dinner,’ the ambassador used the occasion to brief the media friends about his country’s principled stance on Ukraine, role and contribution as active member of the European Union and above all Poland-Pakistan bilateral relations.
The ambassador also congratulated Pakistan on its election to the UN Security Council for 2025-26 expressing his confidence that Pakistan would contribute to the cause of peace, stability and the UN’s sustainable development goals (SDGs).
On bilateral relations, Maciej said that for over six decades the two countries have been engaged in productive partnership and a cooperation relationship rooted in shared values, including sovereignty and territorial integrity. Key moments of solidarity, such as evacuation of Pakistani students from Ukraine, emphasized the nations’ mutual support during crises.
“Bilateral trade between the two countries has crossed €861 million in 2023 from €456.74 million in 2018. Notably, the Polish Oil and Gas Company/Orlen Group have invested over $450 million in Pakistan, pioneering unconventional gas exploration since 1997, the Polish ambassador said.
“With more projects underway, investments are set to double in the coming years,” he said.
The envoy said Poland’s economic success stood as a testament to its transformative policies and determination. Since 1989, its GDP has outpaced many global economies.
“By 2025, GDP is expected to grow by 3.4 percent, solidifying Poland’s status as a robust economic power,” he said.
However major part of the ambassador’s media briefing was related to the Ukraine crisis and European security. Poland, he said was resolute in its support for Ukraine amidst Russia’s aggression. The ambassador condemned Russia’s escalation, including the involvement of North Korean troops, labelling it a colonial war.
“Our government has dedicated over 4.91 per cent of its GDP to military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine, providing critical supplies and assistance,” he further said.
Addressing the migration crisis out of Belarusian soil, the ambassador highlighted the hybrid warfare tactics threatening the European stability. In collaboration with EU partners, Poland is working to secure its borders while maintaining humanitarian principles, he said.
The ambassador also expressed support to the people of Palestine and called for end to Israel’s aggression in Gaza. The rampant killing and merciless attacks on civilians cannot be endorsed, he said calling for ceasefire.
The Polish assistance to Palestine continued or even increased during the war in Ukraine, he said adding Poland continued to support the vision of two states Israel and Palestine living side–by-side in peace and security.
On the EU leadership in 2025, the ambassador said as Poland prepared to assume the EU Council presidency, its agenda centred on bolstering European security, defence and resilience against external threats, alongside enhancing EU-NATO collaboration.
