The police high-ups issued an alert to all cops in Lahore on Sunday after a raft of violent attacks on them by the PTI workers.
In the wake of anti-encroachment drive conducted by the authorities at Zaman Park in Lahore Saturday and the PTI workers’ violence against the police officials, the law personnel have been issued an alert on Sunday.
The alert was issued by the district and traffic police to all police officials.
The latest was an attack on a patrol car of the Lahore police which was returning from duty at Pakistan Super League (PSL8) final which was played at Qaddafi Stadium on Saturday night
Baton-wielding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers vandalized the vehicle on Canal Road, breaking its headlights and windscreen, and then pushed it into the canal outside Zaman Park. The PTI activists have again turned Zaman Park into a no-go area.
The PTI activists also threatened the elite force personnel travelling in the vehicle who managed to jump out of the car and flee. But, the PTI supporters damaged the vehicle, took away two rifles from it and pushed it into the canal.
In another incident, a policeman, who was passing near Zaman Park on a motorcycle, was also severely tortured.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has decided to take action against those who attacked the elite force team and the vehicle.
A spokesman of the Punjab caretaker government said that action would be taken against the miscreants who attacked the elite force team and vehicle.
Keeping in view the attacks, the police high-ups alerted its personnel and the traffic wardens, directing them to take alternate routes while returning from duty or going to points.
The police force personnel going to Mughalpura, Laal Pul and Dharampur warned not to travel through Zaman Park. Cops in uniform must stay away from Zaman Park.
The PTI workers have so far destroyed the vehicles of elite force and police response teams and tortured a policeman who was returning from his duty.
