Senior PML-N leaders Khawaja Salman Rafique and Hafiz Noman on Friday were arrested in a case of torture on an intelligence officer. According to a statement issued by the Punjab Police, Khawaja Salman Rafique and Hafiz Noman had reached Garden Town police station along with the activists to make their own arrest, after which they were arrested in a case registered under Section 109.

According to police officials, Harris, an officer of the intelligence agency, was brutally beaten by the guards of Khawaja Salman and Mian Noman last evening and his vehicle was also damaged. The officer registered a case against seven accused at Garden Town police station. The 4 guards involved were arrested last evening. After the arrest of Khawaja Salman and Mian Hafiz Noman, the number of accused arrested in the case has increased to six.

Police officials said that for the investigation of the case, footage from Safe City cameras and videos made from mobile phones are being examined. The arrested accused were shifted to CIA Model Town police station for interrogation. Will be presented in court.

PML-N leader Khawaja Imran Nazir said that he was waiting for the meeting inside the police station as the officers were interrogating Khawaja Salman and Hafiz Noman. They both came here themselves. We express our solidarity with their families and condemn the arrest.

“We have always offered our support in legal matters. When Shahbaz Sharif was the chief minister, his son-in-law also had to stay in jail because it was necessary for the rule of law. When the institutions investigate this case, we will be proved innocent.

Khawaja Salman Rafique in a tweeter message said, “It is clear that I travel without guards – I have nothing to do with such an incident”.
