CM expresses grief over death of Maulana Izhar Ahmed Qasmi

An anti-encroachment team of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), demolished several encroachments in the business district of the city on Saturday night. The Anti-Encroachment Cell of the city authority conducted raids in the wholesale market of Jodia Bazaar, Plastic Market, Boulton Market, Khoya Gali and Kaghzi Bazaar removed encroachments in front of godowns and shops, officials said. The municipal staff confiscated over 200 pushcarts and make-shift shops in its anti-encroachment drive in the old city area’s business district. The shades and walls illegally built and extended by the shopkeepers and godown owners in front of their businesses, were demolished in the operation. A man who tried to resist the removal of encroachments was handed over to the police deployed during the operation. The Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered removal of the illegal structures and encroachments emerged and mushroomed in Karachi to reclaim the public space, the largest city and economic engine of Pakistan. A bench of the apex court in March 2019 issued order for continuation to the anti-encroachment drive. “Restaurants and small businesses have sprung up on small plots. There is no place to walk in the streets,” the bench had observed in its hearing of the case in Karachi Registry. The chief secretary Sindh was appointed by the court to oversee the operations after directing a continuance of the anti-encroachment operation in the city. In a statement, the CM said that a roadmap of holistic reforms was being vigorously implemented to ensure public service. The foundation of a new Pakistan has been laid under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he added. He said that those who chanted hollow slogans had become part of history now. He said that the era of loot and plunder would not return and added that former rulers are reaping what they had sown in the past. The Chief Minister said that the dream of Prime Minister Imran Khan about a secure, peaceful and prosperous Pakistan would come true soon. Sardar Usman Buzdar said the PTI-led government believes in performance and service delivery instead of sloganmongering, and provision of necessary facilities of life to the general public has been especially focused by the government. He said that holistic reforms are being introduced to streamline the system and facilitate citizens. Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said the Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf (PTI) government’s agenda was just to serve people. In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said PTI’s roadmap, aimed at the progress and welfare of people, was being followed speedily. He said those who used to raise hollow slogans had become history, adding that now previous age of corruption would not come again. The CM said with the grace of Allah Almighty, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s dream of prosper ous Pakistan for coming generations would turn into reality. He further said the incumbent government believed in practical work not on slogans, adding that reforms were being carried out to improve the system. Usman Buzdar said such reforms were being brought which would directly benefit people. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of renowned religious scholar Maulana Izhar Ahmed Qasmi. In a condolence message issued here on Saturday, the chief minister prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in peace and grant courage to the family to bear the loss with equanimity.—APP of the city
