In a significant development, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid Secretary General Chaudhary Shafay Hussain hinted at “seat adjustment” with Pakistan Muslim League-N in the upcoming general elections.
“We, along with the PML-N have formed a committee in this regard,” said Shafay Hussain, the son of PML-Q Chief Ch Shujaat Hussain.
“The PML-Q will take part in the elections with the PML-N,” he added. The PML-Q leader said the PML-N committee would comprise Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, and Khawaja Saad Rafique while the PML-Q’s committee consisted of Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Tariq Bashir Cheema, and Chaudhry Sarwar.
However, he made it clear that the PML-Q did not have such discussion with the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) regarding the seat adjustment. But, Chaudhary Shafay confidently said that his party would secure some seats in Sindh this time.
ShafayHussain said that there had been suggestions from the PML-N camp that seat adjustment might be considered.
“If the PML-N does not agree to any seat adjustment in Punjab then we will contest the upcoming elections independently,” said Shafay Hussain.
He went on to say that they had planned to field 15 to 20 candidates in Punjab.
The Election Commission of Pakistan, he said, had already announced it would hold elections in the country in the last week of January next year, so the elections should not be delayed further.
“Every political party including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) should be allowed to contest elections,” said the PML-Q leader.
He added that they had been preparing for elections and would go into elections in any case.
