The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was solidifying its position in the upcoming Punjab Assembly. Several names were being floated for the crucial post of Speaker, but sources suggest that Malik Ahmad Khan has emerged as the strongest candidate.
According to media reports, Khan enjoys the support of numerous party leaders and was likely to be discussed during a meeting of the PML-N Parliamentary Party led by Maryam Nawaz. This meeting will also address the selection of the Deputy Speaker.
Meanwhile, PML-N continues to expand its support base by attracting independent members of the Assembly. AhsanRaza Khan (PP-180 Kasur) and Colonel (retd) GhazanfarQureshi (PP-128 Jhang) recently joined the party, bolstering its numbers.
These independent members reportedly made their decision after consulting with their constituents and expressed their desire to contribute to Punjab’s development under PML-N’s leadership. Maryam Nawaz warmly welcomed them and outlined her comprehensive plans for the province, focusing on alleviating public concerns and fostering progress.
Khan’s potential appointment as Speaker and the addition of new members strengthen PML-N’s position as it gears up to form the next government in Punjab. The coming days will be crucial as the party finalizes key appointments and navigates the challenges of building a stable coalition.
