In reaction to the Supreme Court’s verdict against trial of the civilians in the military courts, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) expressed concerns while Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) welcome the decision.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Deputy Secretary General Ataullah Tarar raised concerns over the recent ruling of the Supreme Court regarding the military trials of the civilians, saying that it might embolden elements hostile to the nation.

Tarar’s comments came in response to this judgment of the top court, as he remarked that on May 9th, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) orchestrated an attack on national security institutions under a questionable conspiracy, thereby implicating those individuals as national culprits.

The PML-N leader was of the view that the people involved in May 9 riots should not receive any leniency. He also questioned whether foreign agents, who were believed to have instigated internal discord with the support of external adversaries, should also be exempted from military court trials.

Tarar emphasized that the agreement to try the suspects in military courts, as mandated by the Parliament’s resolution in May, should not be undermined by the Supreme Court’s decision.
