Special Assistant to Chief Minister (SACM) for Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday said that despite the fact that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as largest party in Senate, Prime Minister Imran Khan took a bold decision to seek vote of confidence from the National Assembly.
In a tweet, the SACM said that the prime minister’s decision is a challenge to opposition, which either has to show its majority in the house or be held accountable for vote buying during elections of the upper house of the parliament.
It is pertinent to mention here that after an upset defeat at the hands of PDM’s joint candidate in Senate election on Islamabad seat, Prime Minister Imran Khan decisided to seek vote of confidence from the parliament.
Meanwhile, the SACM said that the connivance of the corrupt mafia for saving their political interest has resulted in the triumph of ill-gotten money over the respect to vote in the Senate elections in Islamabad.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Firdous said that PM Imran Khan fulfilled his duty of ensuring transparency in the electoral process and for this purpose approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Election Commission but the political mafia has put the last nail in the coffin of democracy by giving preference to looted money.
She said the ‘front foot’ play has strengthened the truthfulness of Imran Khan’s narrative to purge the institutions of corruption.
It is sanguine that PTI has emerged as a majority party in the Senate while PPP has failed to achieve any seat in Balochistan, Punjab and KPK.
Regrettably, the political mafia is bent upon desecrating the upper house of the parliament.
It is, however, satisfying that PTI has won one seat in Islamabad along with all the provincial assemblies while limiting PPP and PML-N to their provinces, she said.
The Special Assistant said that Imran Khan is committed to exposing the black-sheep in politics and the parliamentarians who sold their vote have violated the public mandate and time has come to get rid of the politics of hypocrisy.
Meanwhile, PM Imran Khan had given a big challenge to the political cabal by deciding to take a vote of confidence.
Dr Firdous said that Maryam Nawaz who is boasting of the victory of Yousaf Raza Gillani has forgotten the defeat of her candidate.
The dirty game played in the Islamabad Senate elections has proved that the founders of political corruption are very experts in achieving goals.
She said that 172 votes were required for a simple majority but the PTI candidate achieved 174 votes.
Meanwhile, the ECP has failed to play its constitutional role and remained unsuccessful in following the directions of the SCP.
