The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) Air Marshal Arshad Malik on Monday said that he had taken the charge of the PIA for the last year and restoration of its past glory was among his top most priorities. He said this while addressing the local industrialists and exporters at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here. He said further that during the first year of his tenure he had strictly followed merit in every department of PIA and had successfully managed the minimizing of the monthly debt and more than fifty percent reducing the expenses. He said that unlike other international airlines, the PIA had 12 to 13 year old planes and was sincerely trying to serve the nation with limited resources. He opined that PIA would soon achieve new mile stones of successes with the help and cooperation from the people of Pakistan, particularly the businessmen. He stressed upon the local business community to prefer PIA to foreign airlines and use PIA for the co-branding purposes in order to boost it financially. He highly praised the Sialkot based industrialists and exporters for their great contribution in earning valuable foreign exchange worth more than US $ 2 billion for the national exchequer. He said that Sialkot was given special priority while rationalizing new routs by PIA. He assured that all the rightful demands of the Sialkot based businessmen would soon be fulfilled and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed within two weeks in that regard.
