PIA launches ‘Ashura Special Flights’ for Najaf, Iraq pilgrims

Ashura is major religious observance for Muslims, commemorating martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain R.A and it sees massive gatherings of pilgrims, especially in Iraq. To cater the influx, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has initiated special flight services to Najaf, Iraq.

Holy Sites in Najad and Karbala attract millions of visitors as Ashura is marked by processions, prayers, and mourning rituals, for Shiite Muslims.

PIA operations started with a scheduled flight to Najaf on July 7, followed by another on July 11. Return flights for pilgrims from Najaf to Pakistan are set to begin on July 20, with additional flights scheduled for July 21 and July 25.

The national flag carrier dubbed these flights as ‘Ashura Special Flights’ which are arranged to accommodate pilgrims during this religious gatherings.

PIA officials also ensured that all necessary preparations are in place to ensure a seamless travel experience for pilgrims on these special flights to Iraq.
