ISLAMABAD – Petroleum dealers announced a countrywide shutdown on July 5, demanding government to end advance tax.
Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) announced that they will shut down entire country on July 5 if the advance tax is not refunded.
In a press conference, Dealers association chairman Abdul Samad Khan expressed concerns over the 0.5percent advance turnover tax included in the Finance Bill 2024-25. He said that this tax makes operating petrol pumps unfeasible and urged the government to review and abolish it immediately. Otherwise, the dealers will have no option but to cease operations.
The association members also emphasised that the interests of oil marketing companies are of paramount importance. He criticised the government for imposing taxes on everything, noting that petroleum dealers’ sales have declined and accusing the government of supporting smuggling while threatening those who oppose it.
Samad also highlighted that tax is already levied on every transaction of sold goods, and the Prime Minister claims to be forced to implement these taxes.
He further mentioned that their delegation is on their way to Islamabad to meet with Finance Minister, Petroleum Minister, and FBR Chairman. If their issues remain unresolved, they will proceed with the nationwide shutdown on July 5.
