Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa weather update; more rains, snowfall expected

PESHAWAR – Widespread rains, isolated hailstorms with heavy snowfall over the mountains are expected in Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a strong westerly wave prevails over western parts of Pakistan. It will likely grip most parts of the country tonight and persist till Sunday (March 03).

Under these conditions, rain-win/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Bajaur, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, Kohat, Waziristan, Karak, Lakki Marwat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan on Thursday night and the next two days. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also likely at isolated places during the period.

Heavy rains may cause flash flooding in hill torrents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday and Saturday (March 01-02). Heavy rain/snowfall may cause closure of roads in Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad during the period.

Peshawar’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 08-10 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in most districts of the province during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts. However, Parachinar received 17 mm rain, Dera Ismail Khan 04 mm, Bannu 03 mm and Chitral 01 mm.

Kalam remained the coldest place in the province where temperature dropped 06 C below freezing.

In Peshawar, minimum temperature was recorded at 09 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 70 per cent.
