LAHORE – The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Saturday predicted the risk of a heatwave in Punjab until May 27.
The PDMA spokesperson said that the temperatures across Punjab are expected to reach between 45 to 48 degrees Celsius, with a severe heatwave likely in the southern districts of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan.
The PDMA stated that in light of the Chief Minister of Punjab’s directives, the relevant institutions are on alert, and heatwave counters have been set up in all hospitals.
DG PDMA Irfan Khatia directed the provision of necessary medicines to prevent heatstroke.
Irfan Khatia mentioned that two citizens in Lodhran were affected by the heatwave and were given immediate medical aid. Ensuring the supply of clean water in the Cholistan districts, the public is being informed about the dangers of the heatwave through the media.
The DG PDMA said that all departments, media and the public can collectively combat the heatwave, and urged the public to take precautions and avoid strenuous work and exercise in direct sunlight.
