Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority has released a flood alert, warning of potential flash flooding in several districts of Punjab as monsoon rains are expected to intensify in the next 24 hours.

According to PDMA spokesperson, heavy rains are likely to affect most districts of Punjab, with Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions at particular risk of flash floods.

In the last 24 hours, significant rainfall was recorded across various regions, including 147 mm in Mangla, 78 mm in MandiBahauddin, and 76 mm in Jhelum. Other areas such as Toba Tek Singh, Gujrat, and Narowal have also experienced substantial rainfall, with 40 mm, 35 mm, and 24 mm recorded respectively.

The ongoing monsoon season has already claimed the lives of 105 civilians and injured 260 others due to incidents of lightning strikes, electrocution, and the collapse of dilapidated buildings, according to the PDMA spokesperson. Additionally, 89 cattle have perished as a result of the heavy rains.

Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions as the monsoon rains continue to pose a threat to life and property across the province.

Meanwhile, The Domeli Dam in Jhelum has broken due to continuous heavy rainfall, which the structure could no longer withstand.

According to media reports, there is a significant risk of flooding in the nearby populated areas.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as efforts are underway to mitigate potential damage to the surrounding communities of Domeli, Bagwala, Jhang, Chanjlot, and DhokKalial.

Domeli Dam is located in Sohawa Tehsil of District Jhelum. It was completed in 2008 with a dead storage level of 1,153 feet and a top of the dam of 1,194 feet. The top width of the dam is 30 feet, the height 120 feet, and the length 1100 feet.
