LAHORE – Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Saturday decided to launch a protest drive against increasing inflation in the country.
The alliance of the opposition parties said that the protests will culminate in the long march towards Islamabad against the PTI-led government.
The decision was taken in a virtual meeting. Reports said that PDM will start protest from Karachi on November 13. Subsequently, anti-inflation protests will be held in Quetta on Nov 17 and in Peshawar on Nov 20.
The opposition parties will gain hold a meeting on November 11, a day after the joint session of the parliament, which is scheduled for November 10.
The government has summoned the session in order to get approved 18 bills that are related to granting voting right to overseas Pakistanis, e-voting and the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in next general elections.
PDM has also rejected the recently promulgated National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance 2021 and vowed to make all-out efforts to stop the government from passing the bills.
The leadership of opposition parties also discussed the recent surge in petroleum prices and electricity prices.
PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith (MJAH) president Senator Prof Sajid Mir, and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai had joined the meeting through video link.
