LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has started efforts to resolve the major issue of accommodation for the foreign and local cricketers in the provincial capital.
A multi-storey building was constructed very close to the Gaddafi Stadium, which raised the security concerns.
The PCB objected to it, legal proceedings were initiated, and construction work was halted.
The builder had already collected money from the people for flats, but when the project got stuck, they offered to sell the building to PCB.
This project had been in progress during the tenure of Zaka Ashraf, but now it’s reported that PCB officially bought the building for 4 billion rupees. Its structure is for flats, and renovation work will be needed to convert it into a hotel.
Further substantial funds would be spent on the project but once completed, it would solve the major issue of accommodation for foreign and local cricketers.
Currently, teams stayed at local five-star hotels, which cost PCB millions, along with road closures for security when traveling from the hotel to the stadium.which caused inconvenience to the public.
Residing near the stadium would provide convenience to everyone and also save money.
It’s worth mentioning that there are standard residential facilities available at the National Cricket Academy but the numbers of rooms are not sufficient to accommodate teams together.
The PCB intended to build hotels near the National Stadium in Karachi after Lahore.
