ISLAMABAD – A special committee in Parliament approved the draft of constitutional amendment, moving swiftly as ruling coalition aims to secure its passage by the weekend. The committee’s decision comes after a joint sitting at Parliament House, which included representatives from both the treasury and the opposition.

This development marks a significant step in the legislative process, as the government seeks to implement changes that could reshape key aspects of the constitution. With bipartisan involvement, the ruling coalition is eager to finalize the amendment in the upcoming parliamentary session

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party called for protests today against proposed constitutional amendments, which they claim threaten judicial independence and seek to keep Khan imprisoned.

PML-N led ruling alliance aimed to pass these amendments, which include establishing a federal constitutional court and changing the appointment process for the Supreme Court’s chief justice. Imran Khan’s party argues changes favor Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, who is seen as aligned with the government.
