LAHORE – Aamir Butt, the first American-Pakistani climber to summit the world’s twelfth highest peak, Broad Peak, is determined to tackle another summit.
Butt, who has reached the 8,051-meter-high Broad Peak while talking to a local private TV shared that he has been residing in the U.S. for 32 years and has been mountaineering in North America for two decades, but not on peaks of this magnitude.
The 58-year-old Aamir Butt remarked that while it is often said that one should avoid such adventures with increasing age due to diminishing stamina, summiting Broad Peak has only boosted his confidence. He plans to tackle another peak over 8,000 meters in the future, noting that although Broad Peak might not seem very difficult, it presents significant challenges.
The climber, driven by his passion, traveled to Nepal with the goal of climbing the five highest peaks in Pakistan. With this determination, he came to Pakistan, successfully ascended Broad Peak, and received assistance from Broad Peak Boy Sheroz Kashif.
Butt also mentioned his extensive participation in various events. He has competed multiple times in four of the six major marathons held in Europe and the U.S. and has represented Pakistan in a total of 33 marathons. Additionally, he has participated in Ironman competitions, which require swimming, cycling, and running.
