ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Russia are set to launch a trial freight train service in the coming months to boost trade between two sides.

Pakistan’s Federal Energy Minister Owais Leghari made the announcement, underscoring the growing economic and political ties between the two nations.

He emphasized that move is driven by Pakistan’s national interests, stating that the country’s relationship with Russia is independent of any external influences. Leghari termed ties with Moscow beneficial for Pakistan and is not dictated by anyone, reiteraring country’s autonomous foreign policy.

He turned down attempts to frame Pakistan-Russia ties in the context of East-West geopolitics, stressing that Pakistan remains open to cooperation with all countries to achieve mutual benefits, and stressed active support Pakistan receives from both Russia and China, which is contributing to the country’s broader development goals.

The upcoming trial freight train service is expected to strengthen trade and connectivity between Pakistan and Russia, marking a new chapter in their bilateral relationship and offering promising opportunities for future collaboration.
