ISLAMABAD – The government of Pakistan announced big increase in rental allowances for all grades of government employees stationed in major metropolises.

The new adjustments were made on an extensive survey of current rental market rates, with aim to offer substantial financial relief to employees residing in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta.

A notification issued by Ministry of Housing and Works notified the revised rental allowances. The new rates, effective immediately, reflect a considerable rise from previous allowances, varying by grade and city.

In the country’s capital Islamabad, the updated rental allowances range from Rs. 3,163 for BPS 1 to 2 employees, whose allowance has been raised from Rs. 7,029 to Rs. 10,192, to Rs. 43,299 for BPS 22 employees, whose allowance has increased from Rs. 99,444 to Rs. 142,743. These changes represent significant hikes, with the highest increases seen in higher grades, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting employees in securing affordable housing.

The overall adjustment represents an approximate 45 percent increase in rental ceilings across all grades. This move reflects the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of escalating housing costs and ensuring that employees can secure affordable and appropriate housing without undue financial burden.

The increased allowances are expected to provide significant support to government workers in managing their accommodation expenses.
