RAWALPINDI – At least eight militants were gunned down and a Pakistan Army troop was martyred during an intelligence-based operation in the country’s northwestern region bordering Afghanistan, the military’s media wing said Wednesday.

A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said security forces conducted an operation on a tip-off in the general area of Shinwarsak, South Waziristan District.

Forces engaged the location of terrorists and during the conduct, intense gunfire took place with the militants in which at least eight terrorists and a commander identified as Jan Muhammad alias Charagh were eliminated.

A huge cache of weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the dead terrorists, ISPR said and added that the group of insurgents remained actively involved in terror activities against security forces and the killing of Pakistani citizens.

During the operation, Sepoy Hamid Rasool, a resident of Rawalpindi, embraced martyrdom after fighting gallantly; four personnel of the armed forces including two officers suffered injuries, ISPR said.

Pakistan Army maintained that forces are fully determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.
