ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir denounced violence and indiscriminate killing of Palestinians in his meeting with Palestine’s ambassador to Pakistan, Ahmad Jawad Rabei, ISPR said Tuesday.

In a press release, the Inter-Services Public Relations said General Syed Asim Munir mourned Palestinian deaths in the ongoing war in Gaza. He expressed concern over unabated violence and willful, indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians by the Israeli forces.

COAS termed ceaseless attacks on civilian population, schools, universities, aid workers, hospitals and the forced exodus of Palestinians from Gaza are patent crimes against humankind.

Gen Asim Munir calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the opening of humanitarian corridor to Gaza, protection of civilians, and adherence to the International Humanitarian Law.

He also mentioned Islamabad’s principled support for an independent, viable, and contiguous state of Gaz established on the basis of pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Military’s media wing quoting the Army Chief said Pakistan believes that the fresh spate of violence in Gaza is the result of unabated repression, continued human rights violations, and state-sponsored sacrilege of Al Aqsa mosque.

The top general was of the view that conflating war with terrorism would be naïve, and taking a narrow and self-serving view of the issue as an isolated attack obscures brutal oppression spanning decades that has led to this outcome.

He also called on the international community to intervene to put an early end to unfolding human tragedy due to the disproportionate and unlawful use of force by the Israeli Defence Forces.
