The Lahore Police have initiated a crackdown on the illicit sale of cigarettes. Operations were conducted within the jurisdiction of Harbanspura Police Station to enforce the Tobacco Control Ordinance of 2009, targeting tobacco use and safeguarding non-smokers. Cases have been filed against three shopkeepers for selling smuggled cigarettes and flavored hookah products. According to details, during an operation, cases have been registered against Shahenshah Pan Shop and Miyan Pan Shop for their role in selling contraband cigarettes on Canal Road. Illicit cigarette packets and gutka were confiscated during the operation. In another action, the police confiscated 30 packets of flavored hookah products and charcoal during an inspection of AAA Pan Shop. Cases have been filed accordingly. The police have initiated inspections by filing cases under the Tobacco Control Ordinance of 2009 to enforce tobacco consumption prevention and provide protection for non-smokers.
Moreover, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) seized smuggled goods worth millions of rupees and impounded the container here on Monday. According to details, on an intelligence tip-off, the Customs I&I searched a suspected container at BabuSabu Interchange while it was heading to Gujranwala from Karachi.
During search of container, smuggled goods including smuggled cloth, bearings, Iranian Safed Dana and other items were recovered. On directions of Additional Collector Rizwan Bashir, the customs team confiscated the recovered smuggled items and shifted them to warehouse.
