Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs & Human Rights Ijaz Alam Augustine chaired an important meeting at Cathedral Church, Lahore on Wednesday to review the situation of corona.
MPA Haroon Imran Gil, Archbishop Sebastian Shah, Bishop Irfan Jamil, Reverend Dr. Majid Abel, Pastor Shaukat Fazal, Pastor Liaquat Qaisar and other representatives of various churches attended the meeting. On the appeal of Minister Ijaz Alam Augustine, a unanimous decision was made by all the participants that all the churches across the province would be closed for religious worship due to increasing intensity of coronavirus throughout the country.
It was also decided that religious days of Good Friday and Easter will also be celebrated with simplicity. Minister Ijaz Alam thanked entire community to show full solidarity with the government and said that due to the importance of Good Friday and Easter, the government has allowed the online worship system throughout the province to safeguard the rights of minorities.
He said that as a citizen of Pakistan it was our moral duty to obey orders of the government and it was also admirable that religious community also closed their all religious worship places already on voluntarily basis.
Augustine said that in the tenure of PTIs all religious minorities are enjoying full religious freedom while as a one nation their decision is commendable. He said that the Punjab government was fully aware of their responsibilities and utilised all available resources to overcome the situation of coronavirus.
