The Punjab government on Friday requested the Election Commission to postpone the by-election to NA-133 Lahore.

According to details, the Punjab government has written a letter to the Election Commission in view of the protest of the banned religious party.

According to the letter, the by-election in NA-133 Lahore should be postponed till the situation returns to normalcy.

The Punjab government wrote in the letter that the law and order situation in Lahore has deteriorated due to the protests of the banned party, and the police and administration are unable to prepare for the by-election due to the protests of the banned party.

According to the Punjab government, the situation may be tense on the occasion of the first death anniversary of Khadim Rizvi on November 19.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Friday accepted the nomination papers of Nawaz League’s candidate Shaista Pervez Malik for contesting by-election to NA-133 Lahore.

According to details, MNA Ali Pervez Malik, Barrister Ahmad Pervez Malik and Naveed Anjum appeared before the Returning Officer of NA-133 Lahore on behalf of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Shaista Pervez Malik.

Ali Pervez, Ahmad Pervez and Naveed Anjum satisfied returning officer Syed Basit Ali about the credentials of the nominated candidate of the PML-N.

They also raised an objection against the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for continuing developing work in the constituency against the code of conduct. The returning officer assured the complainants that he would take notice of the matter.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Food Authority in a major action on Friday arrested a supplier of dead chicken meat from Tollinton Market here in the City.

The PFA officers also seized 1,600-kilogram dead chicken from the supplier’s vehicle bearing number plate LZB 2878.

According to PFA Director General Rafaqat Ali Naswana, the action was taken after it was established that Nadeem Poultry Supplier owned the dead and sick chicken.

He said the meat of the dead chicken was about to be supplied to different food points in different parts of Lahore but the PFA’s meat safety team seized it.

He said the meat of sick chicken can be harmful to humans. “That’s why whenever you buy chicken get itself slaughtered in front of you,” he advised the public.
