NCOC plans winter vacations for schools from Jan 3

The National Command and Operation Centre has finally decided January 3, 2022 as the date for the commencement of winter vacations of the educational institutions across the country. The date was finalised Friday during a meeting of the NCOC, headed by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives and NCOC chief Asad Umar, held to review the rescheduling of winter vacations.

The meeting decided that the areas affected by extreme weather conditions or fog are exempted from the decision. Provincial authorities will notify accordingly, the NCOC said. The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan, and other stakeholders.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government will close schools for winters vacations from December 23 to January 4 as per an undertaking submitted by the provincial government to the Lahore High Court on Friday. LHC Justice Shahid Karim directed the government lawyer to produce a notification to the effect in the court on Dec 21.

Meanwhile, The Lahore High Court has ordered closure of schools from December 23 to January 4 nullifying National Command and Operations Centre decision to hold winter vacations in educational institutions from last week of January 2022.

The LHC took a final verdict during smog case hearing and announced that the decision of closure of schools has been taken while considering the hazardous effects of smog in the city.

According to the public prosecutor, notification regarding the closure of schools will be issued soon. The court futher remarked that the decision will help in the reduction of the effects of smog.

Moreover, Justice Shahid Karim adjourned the hearing on the petitions till next week.
