ISLAMABAD- The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Wednesday issued an alert to border health services following the increase in monkeypox cases worldwide and the spread of the Zika virus in India.

NCOC officials stated that travelers arriving in Pakistan from abroad should be monitored, and suspected monkeypox patients should be quarantined in special wards.

According to NCOC, there have been 9 cases of monkeypox and one death reported in Pakistan so far.

All the monkeypox patients in Pakistan have come from Arab countries, and the disease is not locally prevalent in the country.

The NCOC also mentioned that there have been over 80 cases of the Zika virus and several deaths in the Indian city of Pune while the mosquito responsible for spreading Zika virus is present in Pakistan.

According to the Aga Khan University, Zika virus presence was confirmed in Karachi in 2021 and 2022.
