Addressing a press conference at the MQM P headquarters in Bahadurabad, Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Ali Khurshidi, emphasized Karachi’s vital contributions to Pakistan’s economy and stability.
“This city has played an unparalleled role in Pakistan’s economic, political, and social landscape. Denying its importance is unpatriotic,” Khurshidi stated. He further highlighted that peace in Karachi is directly linked to the country’s economic stability.
Khurshidi stressed that MQM P has represented Karachi’s mandate for the past 40 years and remains committed to maintaining peace in the city.
“We value Karachi’s tranquility above all, as it ensures stability for the entire nation,” he remarked. The MQM P leader underscored the democratic right to protest but condemned any attempts to challenge state authority under its guise.
“In recent days, Karachi’s residents have endured unnecessary hardships due to disruptive protests. Challenging the writ of the state is unacceptable,” he said. Khurshidi said the party has been a staunch advocate for interfaith harmony and credited MQM’s sacrifices for sustaining peace in the city.
“Our thousands of martyrs are a testament to our commitment to Karachi’s peace,” he added. Commenting on recent unrest, he criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for neglecting its responsibilities. “The KP government has been asleep for the last three months. Instead of ensuring peace in their province, they prioritized marches on Islamabad,” he remarked.
He questioned why protests were deemed necessary in Karachi, leaving the city paralyzed for ten days due to KP’s negligence. Khurshidi reaffirmed MQM P’s dedication to exposing those disrupting Karachi’s peace.
“This city is a model of harmony among all sects, and any conspiracy to sabotage it will not succeed,” he warned. He urged all stakeholders to resolve disputes through dialogue, emphasizing that MQM P stands as a barrier against any threats to Pakistan’s integrity.
“Karachi’s role in Pakistan’s economic recovery is pivotal, and MQM will continue promoting interfaith and inter-sect harmony while upholding non-violence in politics,” Khurshidi concluded.
