Monsoon rains predicted in Pakistan till mid July

ISLAMABAD – Monsoon rains are predicted in Sindh and eastern Balochistan on July 08 and July 09.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), significant monsoon rains are likely in upper and central parts of Pakistan till mid July.

According to the synoptic situation, strong monsoon currents from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal will likely penetrate upper parts of the country. A westerly wave will also affect upper parts of the country from July 11.

Kashmir: Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur) from July 10 to July 16 with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad: Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from July 10 evening/night to July 15 with occasional gaps.

Rain/thundershowers are predicted in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from July 12 to July 14.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa: Rain-wind/thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan from July 11 to July 15.

Balochistan: Mainly hot and humid weather is predicted in most districts of the province. Rain- wind/thunderstorms are predicted in eastern Balochistan (Khuzdar, Kalat, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel and Shirani) on July 08 and July 09 and from July 12 to July 14.

Sindh: Mainly hot and very humid weather is predicted in most districts of the province. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are predicted in Jacobabad, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Larkana, Dadu, Padidan, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Badin, Sajawal, Thatta and Karachi on July 08 and July 09 with occasional gaps. While rain-wind/thunderstorms are also expected in Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad on July 12 and July 13.

Gilgit-Baltistan: Mainly partly cloudy to cloudy weather conditions are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan. However, rainfall activity is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar) from July 11 to July 15 with occasional gaps.

Possible Impacts and advises: Heavy falls may increase inflows in local nullahs/streams of Murree, Galyat, Manshera, Kohistan and Kashmir from July 12 to July 14. Heavy falls may cause urban flooding in northeastern Punjab. Landslides may disrupt traffic in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Downpour/windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines, weak structures like electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast. Travelers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and manage their travelling according to weather conditions and avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.
