QUETTA – Authorities have decided to suspend the mobile phone and internet services in Balochistan’s capital city of Quetta on Muharram 7 and 10 as part of security measures.

Balochistan Home Minister Meer Ziaullah Langau confirmed the development, stating that the services will remain suspended from 6am to 12am midnight.

Faithful carried out processions and hold majalis across the country in Muharram in commemoration of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

The government takes stern security measures to avoid any untoward incidents as it has imposed section 144 across the seven districts of the province from Muharram 1 to 10.

Earlier this month, the federal government has approved the deployment of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces (CAF) across the country to ensure security during the Muharram days.

The Ministry of Interior issued a notification in this regard, stating that the government had sought the deployment of military to maintain law and order in the country.

the notification stated: “The date of de-requisitioning of said deployment will be decided subsequently after mutual consultation among all stakeholders.”
