ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar said it currently appeared that the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) would be Justice Mansoor Ali Shah as uncertainty prevails over judicial reforms.

He shared her views while talking to a private news channel. CJP Qazi Faez Isa, who took oath for the post on September 17 last year, is set to retire on October 25, 2024.

Talking about ongoing row with opposition over the constitutional package, Tarar said the draft of the amendments was being made controversial. He said law minister, his team and attorney general took part in finalizing the draft.

He said talks were being held with the political parties regarding the amendments, adding that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s team had the draft of the package.

He said there was a positive dialogue between the government and Rehman.

Atta Tarar further stated that there has been no discussion regarding heading the constitutional court. He also rejected the impression that the draft for the constitutional amendment came from elsewhere.

Earlier, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will be next CJP.
