Minister for Special Education Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Akhlaq has said that in light of the directives of Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, special education department is being adapted to the new requirements. The first Punjab Special Education Policy has been finalized which will be implemented soon after the approval of the Cabinet.
He expressed these views while addressing a function at a local hotel on the eve of World Day of Special Persons. The event was jointly sponsored by Special Education Department Punjab and Shadaab Training Institute.
Secretary Special Education Punjab Javed Iqbal Bukhari, DG Pervaiz Iqbal, Deputy Head of DFID Cammy William, Special Children, their parents and senior officers of the department were present in the event.
Special initiatives were announced by the SED for the education, training and health care of the special people, including the launch of the first Punjab special education policy, 1162 helpline for the special people, teacher attendance biometric system and an App for special children’s admission and parental guidance were introduced.

Expressing concern over the performance of the department, Secretary Special Education Javed Iqbal Bukhari expressed his commitment that Special Education Department would be gradually developed in accordance with modern facilities and modern requirements.
Addressing the ceremony, Special Education Minister said that actual work has now begun for the rehabilitation and care of special people in Punjab.
The Minister said that special people own immense potential, if they are given the opportunity to move forward, they can do a lot.
These people need our love and attention, not sympathy, he added. Chaudhry Muhammad Akhlaq said that any previous government did not try to even compile accurate data about this very sensitive and large segment of the society.
We have to make policies tailored to their future needs.
He said that map of commercial building or plaza should not be approved in accordance with the law of 1981 in which special facilities for special persons are not provided. Strict implementation of this law must be imposed. Special children presented a variety of programmes, during the event.
