Mehboob, Baligh discuss Right to Information Law

Chief Information Commissioner Punjab, Syed Mehboob Qadir Shah, called on Governor Punjab, Muhammad Balighur Rehman at Governor House Lahore. In the meeting, the effectiveness of the implementation of ‘Right to Information Law’ was discussed. During the meeting, the Chief Information Commissioner also presented the institution’s annual report 2022 to 2023 to the Governor of Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that the Information Commission has made it very easy for the common man to access information in all matters of public importance. It has also played a significant role in promoting transparency and eradication in the government departments, he added. Chief Information Commissioner Punjab, Syed Mehboob Qadir Shah said that in the last year, the Information Commission has made decisions to provide information to ordinary citizens from 2166 government departments. He said that RTI centers have also been established in every district.

Later, the newly elected office bearers of Lahore Bar Association led by President Lahore Bar Association Munir Hussain Bhatti called on Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rahman. Governor Punjab congratulated the newly elected body of the Bar Association and welcomed them to the Governor House. The performance of the Bar Association and various public issues were discussed in the meeting.

Speaking on this occasion, Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman said that lawyers play an important role in the judicial system. Governor Punjab assured the delegation that as chancellor, he would instruct the vice chancellors of the universities to introduce better courses in collaboration with their law faculty and bar experts. On this occasion, the delegation informed the Punjab Governor about the problem faced by them due to the transfer of session courts to Model Town. The President Bar Association also requested implementation of the Law on the Protection of Journalists by all departments, especially the Punjab Police. He also requested the Punjab Governor to cooperate in arranging training courses for new lawyers at the varsities.The delegation was comprised of General Secretary Bar Association, Rana Naeem Tahir, Secretary Rao Tahsin, Senior Vice President Rana Imran Sarwar, Finance Secretary Zubair. Gujjar, Joint Secretary Rana Umar Farooq, Vice President Waris Gujjar. Chaudhry Shafaat among other executive members was also present on this occasion.
