CEO & Chairman of Pakistan Observer Mr Faisal Zahid Malik on Tuesday called on Chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Muhammad Saleem Baig and discussed with him the role of media to ensure free, fair and smooth elections to be held on Feb 8, 2024.
He acknowledged the steps being taken by the electronic media watchdog in this regard and assured him of his full support for this national cause.
The chairman of the regulator while expressing gratitude to CEO and Chairman of Pakistan Observer said the national electronic media has already been advised by the authority to abide by the Code of Conduct issued by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for smooth conduct of the general elections.
The ECP had released the code of conduct applying to print, electronic, digital media, and social media last year in October and outlined various guidelines required to adhere to during the polls campaign and polling.
The electronic media has been explicitly directed to refrain from expressing biased opinions that could undermine Pakistan’s ideology, sovereignty, security, independence, and the integrity of the judiciary and other national institutions, he said.
Mr Faisal Malik appreciated the measures taken by PEMRA and hoped the media would realize its responsibility and follow the Code of Conduct in letter and spirit.
Mr Faisal Zahid Malik also offered Fateha for the elder brother of Chairman PEMRA and prayed for the blessing of the departed soul.
