Measles outbreak has so far claimed four lives in Talib Richo coastal village located some 10 kilometers from Jati town of district Sujawal. According to reports reaching here late Monday night from the affected village the news of the epidemic broke after a team of local Journalists after some social activists apprised them about the worsening situation.
The realities that emerged following that visit triggered an emergency-like situation across the district exposing the administration as well as the authorities concerned claiming to provide complete facilities to the dwellers of the remote areas of the district. The medical teams sent by District Health Officer Sujawal Dr Hanif Memon started reaching Talib Richo village after the news of the epidemic went like a wild fire across the district.
The teams were busy assessing the intensity of the situation. Officials of the district health department when asked regarding the situation said that following lack of awareness the children in the remote areas of the district were not vaccinated against diseases that later proved fatal to them. They said that arrangements were under way to set up anti-measles vaccination camps in the affected as well as its nearby villages until complete eradication of the disease.
Four year old Gul Muhammad, three year old Anila daughter of QadirRicho, a two month baby boy Ahmed and Azizulah lost their lives to measles. A team of doctors of Taluka Hospital Jati visited the village inhabited by around 1200 people.
