Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan has ordered the disposal of thousands of pending cases within one and a half month.
CJ Muhammad Qasim Khan directed that all civil and session cases pending before the district judiciary since 2016 should be wrapped up by March 31, 2021. The Directorate of the District Judiciary has issued directives to all the civil and session judges of the province in this regard. According to the statistics, 2030 session cases are pending since 2016 in district courts of Lahore. The number of old civil cases in Lahore stands at 37,728. In Faisalabad, the number of five-year-old session and civil cases stands at 190 and 6,490 respectively.
The number of five-year-old civil cases in Gujranwala’s district courts stands at more than 3,000 while over 200 session cases are also pending. As many as 257 sessions and nearly 7,000 civil cases are pending in district courts of Multan. The number of pending civil and session cases since 2016 in Rawalpindi district courts is over 8,000 and 145 respectively.
In Sheikhupura, the number of five-year-old cases in district courts is 1,635, in Rahim Yar Khan it is 653, in Bahawalpur it is more than 1,700. All the session judges have been asked to ensure the deadline set by the LHC chief justice. The judges have also been directed to forward the progress report to LHC every week.
