A legislative body of upper house of parliament on Thursday summoned PEMRA and private news channel management to explain their position over allegedly fake and malicious news aired in a private news channel on Sep 12th, 2023.10.19
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, which was held here at the Parliament House under the Chairmanship of Senator Muhammad Tahir Bizinjo
The committee remarked that the brief submitted leads to further probe and inquiry in the matter and summoned the Chairman PEMRA along with the Chanel’s Chief and the entire management to put attendance and explain their position in this regard.
During the meeting matter of Consideration of Privilege Motion moved by Senators Professor Dr. Mehar Taj Roghani, Rubina Khalid, Dr. Zarqa Suhrawardy Taimur and Dr. Humayun Khan Mohmand against a private TV channel on airing a fake, false and malicious news report on 12th September, 2023, was taken up.
