Lahore, Punjab weather update; widespread monsoon rains predicted

LAHORE – Widespread monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls and gusty winds are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday with occasional gaps.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate southern & central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over western/upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, intermittent monsoon rains are predicted in Multan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Tunsa, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, Kot Addu, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Kasur, Okara, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Bhakkar, Khushab, Noorpur Thal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Bahawalnagar on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Isolated heavy falls may also occur in Pothohar region and southern districts.

Widespread rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi and northeast Punjab from tonight till 17th August.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha and Faisalabad. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.

Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 33-35°C on Saturday and 31-33°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 36°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 67 per cent.
