Lahore, Punjab weather update; rains, hailstorms expected

LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rainfall of varying intensities and isolated hailstorms in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Thursday night, Friday and Saturday.

As per the synoptic situation, a westerly wave prevails over Pakistan’s central and upper parts. It will likely persist till August 31.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Kot Addu, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur and Okara on Thursday night.

On Friday and Saturday, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Dera. Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Multan, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Kot Addu, Khanpur, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnaga. Hailstorms are also expected at isolated places during the period.

Moderate to heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in Galyat. Windstorms/hailstorms and lightning may damage standing crops, and loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. Tourists and farmers are advised to remain cautious during the wet period. Temperatures are likely to drop during the wet spell.

Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 28-30 degrees Celsius on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, rainfall occurred in parts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Bahawalpur remained the hottest place in the province where the maximum temperature reached 30 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 60 per cent.

In Lahore, maximum temperature was recorded at 29 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 58 per cent.
