Lahore, the heart of Pakistan, ranked as the most polluted city in the world, showed a Swiss-based air-quality monitoring group’s daily rankings issued on Thursday.
According to IQAir, PM2.5 concentration in Lahore is currently 25.2 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value, making the air “very unhealthy” for citizens.
The air quality index was recorded at 215 on October 3, which is 40 points higher than the recorded on September 30 in Lahore, showing worsening air quality ahead of the Smog season.
The Punjab capital has edged out Cogno’s Kinshasa city and Indonesia’s Jakarta to get the unwanted title of most polluted city in the world.
The cities with moderate air quality in Pakistan include Haripur, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Abbottabad, Karachi and others.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has taken various measures to curb smog in the province. In recent actions, authorities closed several brick kilns, issued challans to smoke-emitting vehicles and run campaigns to education people to make the environment healthy.
