Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Faisal Karim Kundi, has condemned the provincial government’s inability to manage the worsening security and administrative challenges in the region. Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Saturday, Kundi stated that KP has fallen into the hands of “incompetent and unfit leaders,” with peace and governance severely compromised.

Kundi criticized the KP Chief Minister for prioritizing the release of the PTI chairman over addressing the province’s deteriorating conditions. “The Chief Minister seems incapable of handling the situation.  The province, once known as the land of flowers, is now plagued by unrest,” Kundi remarked, adding that the provincial government appears oblivious to the escalating crises in areas like Kurram. The governor called out the provincial administration for neglecting the police force, failing to provide them with essential resources to combat rising violence.

He pointed to the ongoing mismanagement, including the absence of vice-chancellors in 34 public universities and alleged attempts to appoint party loyalists to key educational positions. Kundi also questioned the lack of transparency in the use of the province’s funds, highlighting the unaccounted expenditure of Rs. 5 billion allocated under the NFC Award. “The people deserve to know where that money has gone,” he said. On the peace front, Kundi acknowledged the challenges of resolving conflicts in Kurram, where over 750 bunkers have been constructed by rival factions. He urged dialogue but warned that stronger measures might be necessary if agreements are not upheld. He rejected the notion of governor’s rule as a democratic solution and emphasized the federal government’s willingness to engage with all stakeholders to restore peace.

“We are ready to talk with everyone for peace,” Kundi declared. During the press conference, Karachi Press Club Secretary Suhail Afzal Khan welcomed the governor with a traditional Ajrak, shield, and flowers. Khan highlighted the press club’s role as a voice for oppressed communities and a leader in the fight against authoritarianism.

Kundi also announced initiatives to modernize KP’s educational institutions, including the introduction of a cashless fee payment system and facial recognition for transparent examinations. “We have already engaged with Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute to train students in IT at the district level,” he said. Kundi stressed the need for unity and strategic planning to ensure the region’s prosperity. “This is a time for focusing on peace, economic revival, and the well-being of the people,” he added.
