The University of Karachi (KU) and the Pakistan Biological Safety Association (PBSA) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to foster awareness regarding bio-safety, bio-security, and risk management within KU labs, on campus, and in society at large.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at the VC Secretariat, where KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and PBSA President Professor Dr Saeed Khan inked the documents. Under the MoU, both institutions pledged to encourage academic, scientific, and biological research collaboration, with a focus on training biological scientists and researchers. Key provisions of the MoU include the PBSA providing technical support to KU and jointly conducting regional bio-safety and bio-security training programs in the province.

Additionally, PBSA will facilitate KU faculty members in obtaining certification through the International Federation for Bio-safety Association. Speaking at the event, Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi emphasized the importance of academic collaboration in progress and highlighted the potential benefits of such initiatives, particularly in aligning with international standards.

He expressed optimism that the training programs would greatly enhance the understanding of bio-safety, bio-security, and risk management among staff, students, and faculty members. Prof.Dr Saeed , President of PBSA, underscored the mutual benefits of collaboration, stating that joint efforts could lead to resource improvement for both parties.
