SAUDI Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Green Initiative for the Kingdom and the Middle Eastern Region at large indeed is really commendable and yet another manifestation of his farsighted and futuristic approach.
This initiative certainly will further improve the image of KSA at the international level as a responsible state.
Under the Saudi Green Initiative announced on Saturday, the Kingdom plans to raise vegetation cover by planting 10 billion trees in the country, reduce carbon emissions by making half of the country’s power from renewable sources by 2030, combat pollution and land degradation and preserve marine life.
Going a step further, the Kingdom has also promised to coordinate with the neighbouring countries and regional allies to plant an additional 40 billion tree, making the combined total the largest reforestation program in the world.
Whilst announcing the initiatives, the Saudi Crown Prince said “as a leading global oil producer, the Kingdom fully recognizes its share of responsibility in advancing the fight against the climate crisis.
Just as the Kingdom underpinned energy markets during the oil and gas era, it is going to become a global leader in forging a greener world.”
We and the people of Pakistan wish the Crown Prince success in this transformational program.
On Monday the Saudi Crown Prince also telephoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and discussed with him the Green Initiative which, in fact, is very much aligned with our own Clean and Green initiative envisaging, amongst other measures, plantation of ten billion trees.
Since Pakistan has the experience of successfully planting one billion trees in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, our expertise and experience in the field will be really help for the brotherly country.
This is the reason that Prime Minister also offered Pakistan’s support to the Crown Prince for the massive tree plantation campaign.
Cooperation in the Green initiative indeed will help further bring the two countries closer to each other.
The friendship between Pakistan and the KSA is unique in many ways. The people of Pakistan accord great respect to the Saudi leadership and the people.
The Saudis share the same feelings for Pakistan and they have manifested so on many occasions for standing by Pakistan in difficult times.
Time has come to translate these strong bonds into a strong economic partnership. Beginning can be made by greater cooperation in the Green Initiative.
