In a bit to ensure better municipal services in the newly merged areas, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, in the first phase, has provided 50 numbers of waste disposal vehicles to 25 Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) of the merged districts whereas such vehicles and other machinery of municipal services would be provided to the newly established TMAs in the second phase.
Furthermore, substantial progress has been made on the projects for establishment of various vegetable/fruit markets and bus stands in the in the merged areas, and the public of the area would soon benefits these projects. This was told in a meeting held here the other day to review the performance of Local Government and Rural Development with Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan in the chair.
Briefing the meeting about various schemes launched for improved municipal services in different districts of the province, it was informed that under Cities Improvement Project (CIP), schemes for improved municipal services are being launched in various districts including Peshawar, Kohat, D.I. Khan, Swat, Abbottabad and Mardan. The CIP schemes of district Peshawar include replacement of old and rusted pipelines of water supply in various localities, solid waste management system at Shamshatu, water treatment plant at Kaneeza and improvement/restoration of various public parks.
The meeting was told that under the CIP Women Development Centre and Sewerage Treatment Plant would be established in district Kohat whereas Sewerage Treatment Plant and Solid Waste Management system would also be established in district Mardan. It was further informed that under the Municipal Service Delivery Project, 97 dysfunctional drinking water tube wells have been restored and handed over to the Water Supply and Sanitation Services Company for operation whereas work is in progress on the restoration of 66 more such tube wells.
Similarly, an agreement has been signed for restoration of old water supply scheme in D.I.khan.
Talking on this occasion, the Chief Minister said that his government was utilizing all the available resources to ensure improved and quality municipal services in all the districts of the province, and number of projects have already been launched to this end which, on completion, would bring about positive changes in the day to day life of the citizens, and added that all the efforts of his government ultimately aimed at improving the citizens’ life standards by providing them all the basic amenities of life at their door steps.
He directed the concerned quarters to ensure physical progress on such public welfare schemes as per the given timelines so that the same could be completed well in time adding that unnecessary delay in the execution those schemes will not be tolerated at all. He also directed the concerned authorities for necessary steps on priority basis to remove all the illegal encroachments in the provincial capital and fresh demarcation of all the government lands.
