KARACHI – The Sindh Police on Tuesday launched a crackdown against hotels and guesthouses operating without certificates from the Tourism Department and registration in the Hotel I software.
The police also detained nine foreign nationals staying illegally during the crackdown.
Following an attack on foreign nationals near the airport, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon.
DIG CIA Muqaddas Haider reported that, after receiving the task, the CIA conducted searches of around 150 hotels and guesthouses across the city.
During these operations, nine foreign nationals were taken into custody for staying illegally. Additionally, the Tourism Department and Sindh Police’s Hotel I software identified over 100 hotels and guesthouses that were not registered, and relevant authorities have been notified through letters.
The letters highlight that such unregistered hotels and guesthouses pose a security risk. Based on these concerns, the CIA Karachi intensified its search operations.
During the searches, it was discovered that the several hotels and guesthouses were operating without certification from the Tourism Department and were not registered in the Hotel I software.
SSP Specialized Investigation Unit Shoaib Memon said that although local police stations had been conducting crackdowns on hotels and guesthouses, a recent wave of terrorism prompted a meeting under the leadership of Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon. The meeting led to the formation of six teams by the Specialized Investigation Unit to carry out the crackdown.
