Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) pays tribute to the life of journalist Javed Naseer Rind who was killed in 2011.

We urge the relevant authorities to reopen the case and provide a conclusive verdict on the case.

On November 5, 2011, senior sub-editor with the Urdu-language daily Tawar Rind’s bullet-riddled body was found near Ghazi Chowk in Khuzdar, Balochistan, two months after he had been abducted.

Rind’s uncle Aziz Rind told PPF that the case was closed because police didn’t investigate it nor were they able to find who was involved.

He said the family had not pursued the case further as Rind’s brother had shifted to Iran, his wife had had shifted to her mother’s home with their son and his father had passed away.

Rind’s body was found after he was abducted on September 10, 2011, from his residence in the Mehmoodabad area of Hub Town.

As per Express Tribune, his relatives had registered a First Information Report (FIR) about the kidnapping, however, had not accused anyone. Rind was also a member of the pro-independence Baloch National Movement.

“The victim was shot in the head and the bullet had passed through the skull. The body bore multiple marks of brutal torture,” doctors at the District Headquarters Hospital, Khuzdar were quoted in the report as saying.

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists President Shahzada Zulfiqar had told PPF that Rind was a freelance writer, he always wrote for the truth and that was the actual reason of his abduction and murder. He further said that Rind had received the threats so many times before his kidnapping.

The daily Tawar was known for its coverage of the many conflicts between rival groups and the government.
